General
Classification Information
Texas
Corvette/Chevy Expo
This
show is Judged based on Cleanliness, Workmanship,
Attention to Detail, Quality of work done and
overall Appearance.
BOTTOMS ARE JUDGED
Keep
in mind we judge the bottom of the car just like the
top. When
it comes to cleanliness, if the bottom side has
dirt, oil, gravel, etc., it is going to cost you a
lot against the competition.
INTERIORS ARE JUDGED
Please
leave your car unlocked.
Your car might be great on the top, but if
the car is locked when we judge, and we cannot get
into the car to judge the interior, this will cost
you many points.
Note: In
order to complete the judging, much of the judging
is done after show hours (please leave your cars
unlocked for the judges).
HOW ARE CLASSIFICATIONS DETERMINED
The
outward appearance of the car is what determines the
classification of the car.
Any information displayed with the car that
explains what has or has not been done, as well as
the overall condition, also determines its
classification.
Note:
We are not attempting to determine whether a car has
the right engine, transmission, casting numbers,
casting dates, etc. We
are only trying to determine whether the items
appear like the originals.
In
stock classes, we base a new car from the dealer as
being a five or six on a scale of 10, there is
always grease, grime from transport, dirt from test
drives, etc... A
new car is never detailed, polished, and waxed to
what you call perfection.
That is why the person who spends many hours
on his “new” car is going to do better than the
one who buys a new car, washes it, cleans up the top
side, waxes it and feels it is perfection.
The
overall basis for classification is to try to put
cars in a class that is appropriate for their
intended use as we see them.
If the car is so clean it shows no visible
signs of being driven it will normally go into a
stock class rather than a street class, even if it
has miles on it (which we cannot tell on the new
cars due to electronics). We do not use mileage as a
basis for classification only the condition and
appearance of the car.
These
classifications are guidelines… actual
determination is solely the responsibility of the
judging staff.
THE
COMPETITION IS TOUGH
Just
a reminder: we
know that there are many people in this show that
spend hours upon hours cleaning the bottom of the
car, the inside of the wheels, etc., etc., etc...
When you get to the large classes, something
as small as “stuff”, left in the console may
bump you down a place or two.
That is just how tough the competition is and
how hard some people work to get to the top.
HOW ARE EXTRA POINTS ACHIEVED
Our
judging does not reward for extra Graphics, Chrome,
Accessories, etc. The only items, which add to
scores for an entrant, are the Display and Overall
Appearance of the Car and Display.
The reason for this is that this is a car
show and the people paying to see a car show expect
a display that tells them something about the car.
This makes the car more appealing than it
would be just parked on the street.
We also enjoy knowing more about the cars and
their history or use or on older cars other
memorabilia of the era.

These
cars do not show visible signs of being driven on the
street. These
cars compete for BEST OF
SHOW STOCK.
This may either be the result of the cars not
being driven or the owner spending so much time
cleaning he has removed any visible evidence of it
being drive. We
do not use odometers to verify miles due to the newer
cars w/electronic odometers.
Keep in mind if a part were different from
original it would have no effect on the judging, as we
do not add for options, etc.
For that reason there may be an occasional pure
car which has a minor change, i.e. mats, etc. which we
miss or deduct a small amount for rather than put the
car in a non-appropriate class for its condition.
The car is still the same and judging will
still be based on cleanliness, detail and workmanship
and will stay due to its intended purpose of being a
car for showing more than driving.
Restored
stock-This class refers to a frame off
(normally) restoration of a car to the same quality as
factory or to show quality.
This restoration would include all suspension,
engine, interior, paint, trim and accessories.
Most cars in this class are far nicer than the
factory ever wished they would be.
We will not judge for correct serial #’s, and
all parts will be assumed correct if parts used were
available for that production year or appear stock.
Pure
Stock-This class is a new car or possible a
restored stock car which is showing some deterioration
from its fresh restored condition to more of a new car
quality and condition.
A minor change in an otherwise original car
(i.e. wheels) will result in a reduction in the
entrants overall score.
This is done to keep the car in the class in
which it would compete without the change rather than
place it in a lower class and possibly be unfair to
the cars in that class (keep in mind there are no
extra points awarded for the wheels etc.) and judging
is still based only on cleanliness, workmanship, etc.
Modified
Stock (Can be broken down into Modified Pure or
Modified Restored/Stock) This classification is to
allow judging of a vehicle which does not show signs
of street driving and has had several modifications
such as engine chrome, radio, wheels, etc but nothing
which would cause it to be in a custom class.
These
cars show visible signs of being driven, not
necessarily on a daily basis.
These Classes compete for BEST
OF SHOW STREET.
Pure
Street- These cars are cars that have been
driven and show some signs of usage, but are far to
clean to be judged against normally driven cars, which
show various signs of wear & tear or aging and in
areas, which may be extremely difficult to clean
showing signs of driving.
Street
Stock-These cars are visibly driven regularly.
These cars are basically stock with up to three
major changes allowed: such as wheels, engine
compartment, chrome, radios & electronics.
All cars must have stock type paint and
interiors with no body modifications.
Original color may be changed, but no form of
custom paint will be allowed (including major stripes,
graphics, etc. very minor pin stripe or accent stripes
may be allowed). All
Vehicles should have current license and inspection
(if required by state) antique vehicles may be exempt
if they show signs of being driven.
Modified
Street-These cars are visibly driven regularly.
These cars are basically stock with more than
three major changes allowed.
These cars are allowed an unlimited number of
bolt-ons. This
does not include major body panel changes, custom
interiors or custom or elaborate paint jobs.
Normal striping and accent pin striping are
allowed.
These
cars have been modified from original to some extent;
even if the body is original, a custom interior will
automatically move a car to one of the custom classes.
These cars compete for BEST
OF SHOW CUSTOM.
Definition
of percentage of the body is determined by the 11
major sections: two front fenders, two rear fenders,
front top area, rear top area, top, right & left
door(s), front bumper/grill area and rear bumper/tail
area.
Corvettes
and Steel cars are combined in these classes, if there
are large classes they may be further broken down by
type of car.
Mild
Custom-May have any type of paintwork.
Mild changes up to 49% of the body are allowed.
(No Major Changes, i.e. radical flares, major
panel reworking or replacement w/custom panels.)
Custom interiors are allowed.
Full
Custom-Any car that has had 50% or more of its
body changed from stock with custom or off the shelf
body panels. In
no case will shopped top or sectioned body will be
allowed. Anything
else is allowed. Coupes
may be made into roadsters in this class.
Radical
Custom-Any car with a chopped top or sectioned
body. Any
kind of change is allowed.
A car with a tremendous amount of change may be
deemed Radical Custom even though the body has not
been cut or altered (Judges Decision).
These
Cars compete for BEST OF
SHOW COMPETITION.
Any car
regardless of year that has been prepared for racing
in any form of competition.
Vehicles which are built with racing
accessories but are obviously are not raced and are
only shown may be placed in a Competition/Show
Class vs. Competition
Race Class for cars which are actually raced.
Reproduction,
In Process, Specialty Vehicles with Chevrolet Drive
Train, Survivor, New Un-Dealer Prepped vehicles,
Prototypes and other similar vehicles with Chevrolet
interest or origin.

Awards and are for display only-not judging.

original or restored to stock, but show wear and tear
and would be unfair to compete with a garaged show
car. (Frame-off restoration, only if wear & tear
shown)
RESTORED STOCK
Any car rebuilt from the ground
up to factory Specs, including engine, paint and
interior. We
will not judge for correct serial #’s, and all parts
will be assumed correct provided the parts used were
available for that year’s production.
MODIFIED STOCK
Any car with multiple changes,
which would not cause it to be classified as custom or
any visible evidence of being driven which would allow
the vehicle to be classified in a Street Class.
These are, generally speaking, trailered show
cars with stock bodies and paint.
COMPETITION
Any car regardless of year that
has been prepared for racing in any form of
competition. Vehicles
which are built with racing accessories but obviously

These classifications are guidelines… actual
determination is solely the responsibility of the
judging staff.
